Embedding MusicBrainz?

Embedding MusicBrainz?

Popular 'web 2.0' sites often have bits of their pages which can be embedded . I have created this blog as a place where I can display some prototype ideas for embedding musicbrainz. I will copy/paste this exact same content around to a few other free blogging services, to get some idea of what kind of embedded code works and what doesn't (can I use javascript?, iframes?, etc..).

As a first post, I went looking for a few widgets/badges which you can get at other places. In the process, I've learned that the code for these is horrible! First up, flickr:

www.flickr.com

And, let's follow it up immediately with my overall top artists at last.fm:

A nice thing about the two badges listed above is that both these sites have simple configuration wizard which allows you to choose/enter the colours you need to make the badge fit in with your blog/website. At flickr you have even more configuration options.

Of course, the concept of these 'web 2.0' badges is almost as old as the web, and an example of a simple embedded image badge which probably would've already worked in 1998 or something, is loesje.org (and hasn't changed since, judging by the <center> tags in the source :):

That's it for now. Expect my musicbrainz prototype badges in the following weeks.
